Scream dreams

It was 14 years ago when I had my first night terror, it precipitated my later nervous breakdown, and since that time I've had these terrifying dreams several times a year. Apparently, according to the online oracle that is the internet they are more common in children but quite rare in adults. I never seem to know what brings them on, and each time they are different. The most recent, last week, was, an amorphous black shape at the end of the bed, that's all I can remember, until I woke up terrified and screaming. Terror like I've not known in waking life. The screams renting the peace of the night and sending my family running upstairs, used by now to 'mummy's funny dreams', by the time I've come to and calmed down, I get teased about what has triggered the scream dream this time, a conker, a bundle of sticks? Such seemingly inocous items when I try to describe them to my young son; the descriptions pulled together from scraps of what I can remember from the midst of terror. For the nights following one of these episodes I'm nervous about falling asleep, as they seem to occur in the early stages of being asleep, but after a few nights being scream-free I start to forget about having them, until the next time, when they remind me that all is not always well in the world of my brain!
