My son really took to swimming off the Fitties beach this summer.

I have several friends who are cold-water swimming advocates, but I'd been reluctant to take the plunge. I'm a bit too used to my regular leisure centre swimming sessions where the water is warm and I can get out have a nice shower and wrap myself in a towel. This July as our family had decided to spend the summer at our chalet on the Fitties it seemed a good idea to actually be in the sea and experience the waters that have done so much to create and shape the town and the coast where we live. We really enjoyed it, the water swirled around us in warm ribbons as seaweed bobbed alongside us, you could feel the salt and sediment in the thickness of the water. Once we got out we felt exhilerated and went back in again for several more dips over the course of the summer. There's also something perspective shifting about being the water and looking back to the beach!
