Sea lavender by the Fitties.
Sea lavender by the Fitties.

This summer as part of my We Are Marshy Folk project I've spent weeks at my chalet by the sea at the Humberston Fitties. It's not just by the sea, it's by the Humber, the mouth of which is a SSSi (Site of Special Scientific Interest) with the salt marsh an integral part of the area. The salt marsh is the reason for the name the Fitties and was an environment that would have originally covered the coast of Grimsby, but was gradually put into retreat by the industrialisation of the fishing industry. Being able to be next to the salt marsh for weeks enabled me to witness the tides and the rhythms of our coastline to help me with this project. Ths painting was done to reflect the colours of the sea lavender as it is drowned by the tide.
