Celebrating firsts...

I've been thinking a bit differently about my garden in the light of the red-hot temperatures we're living with at the minute. I always have tried to grow a few things, courgettes, salad, soft fruits. But I play really. It's really made me think that I'd be clueless if I had to rely on my garden's efforts to live on. Reading about the farming that was done for centuries by my ancestors in Grimsby that went largely unrecorded in any detail for my We Are Marshy Folk project has been eye opening. But their efforts fed their families and other people's families, they knew the land, what worked and what didn't, how to plan for winter, how to survive and eek out food, or celebrate when harvests were full. I'm in awe.
